Rene Splinter was born in December 1968 in The Hague, the Netherlands. Since 1977, Rene got interested into electronic music since he had heard Jean Michel Jarre’s ‘Oxygene’. It was in 1986 when Rene was introduced into the world of Electronic Music by his best friend. Within that year, Rene bought his first synthesizer, the Sequential Circuits Pro One. Since then he started to record his own music, first with very limited resources, by overdubbing the tracks with two cassette decks, and playing nearly everything manually. During the following years, Rene has been collecting more synths and recording equipment.
At the end of 1989, after a few years of experimenting and recording, Rene released his first album, named ‘Almery’. At the time, the album was a private release on compact cassette, and some tracks were aired on the national Belgium radio station BRT1 early 1990 on the ‘Manouvers In Het Donker’ show. After the release of that album, lots of new material was recorded, but none of it was released. Productivity ended almost completely at late nineties, and was picked up again in 2006, when Rene met artist Souw TikHien. Souw asked Rene to accompany his artwork exhibitions and video installations with Rene’s music. In the mean time, ‘Almery’ was remastered and re-released as a private release on CDR and digital download in 2008. An introduction album called ‘Dreaming Angels’, containing both recent material, as well as recovered earlier work, also saw the light of day in several digital ways. Besides composing new music again, Rene had re-discovered his own work from the early nineties. As the old recordings were well received by his friends, Rene decided to restore it and polish it up for possible release. The recovery work, initiated in 2008, required quite some research, as most of the original tapes were not archived carefully, and even some original material appeared to be lost completely. But when the puzzle was completed, in 2010 the album ‘Transit Realities’ was finally ready for the world. ‘Transit Realities’ is Rene’s first release on MellowJet Records. Later that year, followed by a successful debut concert at the Schallwende Grillfest in Gruga Park Essen (Germany), Mellowjet Records agreed to re-release and remaster the album ‘Almery’ on their label. In 2011, Rene contributed unique tracks for several compilation CDs. On MellowJet Record’s compilation “EM For Life”, of which the complete revenue will be donated to the German Red Cross, for the support of the victems of the catastrophe that hit Japan on March 11, 2011. For this album, Rene has submitted a special track called “Tales of the Sundogs”. In the mean time, Rene had done some performances, one being his appearance at the E-Day 2011 festival. For this event, a special CD was released by Groove Unlimited label, featuring three tracks by Rene. Michel van Osenbruggen (synth.nl) had initiated the idea to bring a team of Dutch electronic musicians together to make an album inspired by paintings by Dutch famous paintings. It ended up in a fantastic concept. Rene had contributed with the track “The Tower of Babel” inspired by Peter Bruegel’s ‘Toren van Babel’. In January 2012, Rene will be releasing a brand new album, called “Singularities” on Groove Unlimited label. Later that year, a concert at the Zeiss Planetarium in Bochum (Germany) is scheduled on May 12. On June 30th 2012, Rene performed on the legendary ‘Winnie’s Schwingungen Gartenparty’ in Hamm, Germany. On April 6th 2013, Rene has performed at the 2013 edition of E-Day, an EM festival organized by Groove Unlimited, helt at Theatre ‘The Enck’ in Oischot, The Netherlands. At this very successful concert, Rene also introduced his new album ‘Modern Ruins’. The album ‘Modern Ruins’ was nominated as Best Album International 2013 and ended up on second place. Also, Rene was nominated himself as Best Artist International 2013, for which he also run on second place. During the Schallwelle Awards Ceremony on March 29th 2014, Rene was invited by Eric van der Heijden to perform a track specially dedicated to Sylvia Summerfield of the Schallwende assiciation. On September 13th 2014, Rene performed at the Awakenings festival in Burton upon Trent in the UK, together with Ron Boots and Beyond Berlin. Simultaniously, Rene has presented his release “Frames”, which was released on Groove Unlimited label on the same day. Together with Eric van der Heijden, Rene and Eric teamed up as ‘UNI Sphere’ and released their debut album ‘EndLess EndeavoR’ at Groove Unlimited. A number of concerts followed in 2015 and 2016, such as E-Live 2015, Awakenings (UK), HELLO2017 and Schwingungen am Wasserfall (as support act of Tangerine Dream). UNI Sphere was nominated for the Schallwelle award at 4th place in the category Best Artist International 2016. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Особая благодарность: Klorus X-Solo

The Laughing Magician ...... 28:00 This project must have been initialized somewhere early 1989. About three years earlier, I was introduced to the world of electronic music by my best friend Maik. We have been gathering several ideas that should form the roots to a complete album. The conceptual idea was to have an introduction of some short stories, followed by a main long track, that would complete the story. This all would then be released on a compact cassette. The project was finished late 1989. The recording process was quite primitive. Just a few tape decks, a noisy disco-mixing desk, and a great Roland reverb unit were the recording tools. There was no way to repair mistakes, and everything was played manually, besides the sequencer and drum parts, which were programmed inside the synths. No computers were available for me at the time. Even though this seems like a great limitation, I can only recall the great fun I had during the creation of Almery. All tracks are influenced by sounds, colors, and anything else that happened around me at the time. The main instrument used on Almery was the Elka Synthex, supported by the SCI Pro-One. Korg Mono/Poly and Yamaha CS20M. Rhythm and sequencer parts were all synth’s internal sequencers, plus a Roland CSQ600 and drum computers (Korg DDD1 and Roland TR808). In 2010, 20 years after it’s origin, Almery was again remastered and released on MellowJet Records. ----------------------- foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 Жанр: ElectronicСтиль: Berlin School Год издания: 2009 Тип издания: WEB, Album, Compilation Издатель (лейбл): Not On Label Каталожный номер: none Продолжительность: 00:46:57 Tracklist: 01. Traveling within dreams and metropolitan cities, over mountains, through rivers and digitally rendered landscapes. A symphonic soundscape painting of transits between reality and the imaginary world. ‘Transit Realities’ was originally recorded during 1992 and 1993. After the mixing was complete late 1993, these tracks ended up in archives. It was only considered as an experiment on how to realize dreams into reality, by converting the music I dreamt of into real audible sound. And I basically ended up making music that I wanted to hear myself. It was only a few years from now, many years after the recordings, that I re-discovered the tracks and realized that there might be a possibility I would not be the only person wanting to listen to such music. So, I decided to dust off the tapes, transfer the original multi-tracks into the digital world and to rework the mix with current technology in order to gain more depth and dynamics, but maintaining the original atmosphere as much as possible, or even improving it slightly. When finished, I felt that I could revisit my journeys again. And this time I’d like to invite you to join me. Hopefully, you’ll like it as much as I have enjoyed making it. 01:01:03 Tracklist: 1.Singularities ...... 15:06 2.Lucid Dreaming ...... 08:37 3.The Time Traveler ...... 06:07 4.Timescapes ...... 12:27 5.Lemniscate ...... 07:31 6.Before Babel ...... 03:31 7.The Lighthouse ...... 07:41 We are all time travellers, whether we want it or not. Together, we are travelling with a one way ticket to the future. Time is taking us to what is ahead of us, and there is no way of stopping it. Although there are several ways to define time, such as the fourth dimension, a unit to calculate velocity, or simply the dials on your watch, it’s impossible to get control over it. Time has control over us. You can only look back in time, but you can’t change it. The fourth dimension is the one in which you can’t move around freely… Please join me with my expedition through all four dimensions and beyond. ----------------------- foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 On ”Singularities” René invites the listeners to an expedition through all four dimensions and beyond. It is an album about time travelers, which we all are, weather we want it or not. René is a big fan of Tangerine Dream and that can be heard very well throughout the whole album. And where many electronic musicians choose to take TD from the seventies as a main source of inspiration, René has taken the TD-sound from the first half of the eighties and mixing this with his many own ideas into an excellent combination. The titletrack opens the album softly with atmospheric sounds and beautiful, Vangelis-like, solosounds. After this, rhythms fall in, and sequences that resemble TD’s “Logos” enter the scene. One of the trademark TD-sounds from the mentioned period, were the crystal clear and totally unique sounds from the PPG Wave computers. René also uses these quite often, like in “Lucid Dreaming”. A track like “The Time Traveler” could easily have come from one of TD’s many soundtracks from that time, including the brass and drumsounds. There is an amount of melancholy in René’s music, which we can hear in “Timescapes”. One of the best pieces from ”Singularities” is “Before Babel” where he shows his more reflective side, using a piano and great ambiences. The piano returns on the last track “The Lighthouse” which well be called the highlight of the album. This is also a track that could be part of a movie. The solo is also great. It is almost if Johannes Schmoelling plays the solo himself!
With “Singularities” René shows that he is a great musician and composer. Listening to his music, you wished the years had been standing still for almost thirty years. It is a long time ago but that time can be brought back through René's music. So, a time traveller René is indeed. 2012. [CUETools log; Date: 19.06.2023 17:56:40; Version: 2.2.4] ----------------------- foobar2000 1.5.5 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.1 With his album “Singularities”, René Splinter showed a remarkable talent in the world of contemporary electronic music, although the music of Johannes Schmoelling and ‘80’s TD were (and still are) big influences. Fresh fruit in a similar, still engaging style is presented on the 62-minute concept –album “Modern Ruins”, taking off melodically and energetic on “Urbex”, while the rapid sequencers take on a spatial shape on “Pod City”. TD’s “White Eagle” sends its regards here, but René puts things in his own different perspective while keeping a clear head and without losing the melodic approach. Soft glowing atmospheric sketches fill the quiet “Scenic Reels”, very nicely turning up the cinematic, introspective alley. The highly emotive “Footprints in the Dust” airs a fine mix of Schmoelling and TD in excellent shape, accompanied by some fine rattling drums. The very open sounding title track leaves a happy, positive feel, due to a nice soaring solo voice hovering over a catchy assortment of TD/Schmoelling ingredients. The reflective mood returns on “Nostalgia”, where René delivers some fine piano accompanying his vibrant, gentle electronics. The final track “The Pendulum” is another energetic piece, almost a symphony, kicking in with sparkling sequencing, classical piano and lush, hovering pads.
If you got and liked “Singularities”, you can purchase “Modern Ruins” without any hesitation. Bravo René! I take you with me in a trip through my fascination of film - in particular the celluloid version of moving and still images. I always get mesmerized by the imagination of a movie projector showing an image of light though a new still frame every 24 frames per second, which is a direct reflection of the cinematographer’s vision. Grain, scratches, dirt, faded colors and degrading film emulsion add even more magic to this experience. Exact Audio Copy V1.3 from 2. The latter proved a solid, well-made and highly emotive work of sonic art sketching out various moods and atmospheres. After a lot of hard work and perseverance there’s “TempUS”, a concept album dealing with the fact that (everything in) life is temporary.
To reflect on that, both musicians composed 65 minutes of imaginative and narrative music that unfolds slowly through fields of in-depth textural landscapes, enticing melodic lines and sequences patterns while elements of Johannes Schmoelling’s sound design shines through occasionally. The music shifts into more dynamic mode on “In Transition”, a typical Rene Splinter track, opening with up-tempo sequences before shifting to a smoother pace while warm melodies are released. The 7-minute “Reflections” is all about creating fluid, melancholic-infused textural spheres before drums, sequences as well as a smooth solo kick in on “Post Meridian (11:35 pm)”. From there the sound design builds gently along some Schmoelling-esque solo voices surfacing now and then. The realm of ‘80’s TD also applies to the futuristic “Technical Instrument for Measurement of Existence” where a pleasant bit of sound experimentation is going on paired with heavy drums and brief melodic lines. The 11-minute “Reunification” rounds out the fine release in an up-tempo fashion with various tempo changes and very nice sequencer patterns at work as well as some fine solos. All in all, I have no doubt “TempUS” will appeal to and be appreciated highly by a wide Em-audience out there.
